PG Eligibility Criteria (Engineering/ IT, Medical, Mathematics & MBA)
 

Sixteen years of schooling or 4 years (130 credit hours) education after FA / FSc / A Level will be mandatory for admission in MS / M Phil Program leading to PhD, Masters only Program and MBA. The previous (terminal) degree or academic transcript on the basis of which an applicant is eligible to apply for MS Engineering / IT/ M Phil leading to PhD, others Masters only Program and MBA must be PEC / HEC / PM&DC (as applicable) recognized with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.00 / 3.5 out of 5.00 or 1st Division (60% marks). The % age will only be valid, if CGPA is not mentioned in the previous (terminal) degree or academic transcript on the basis of which an applicant is eligible to apply. No third Division / Grade D or below and only ONE second Division / Grade C throughout the academic career (less terminal degree) is allowed.

 
1 MS Engineering / MS-IT Leading to PhD
  GRE (General) or GAT General conducted by NTS with at least 50 raw score and the following:-

BE Civil, BE Architecture and Bachelor of Architecture. The previous degree must be PEC/HEC/ACATP recognized.

   
c. Electrical (Telecommunication) Engineering

s. Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Management
 

A degree (minimum 16 years education) from an Institute recognized by HEC / PEC with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 / 4.0 or 60 % marks in any of the following disciplines, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering / Electrical / Electronics / Avionics or an equivalent qualification in relevant discipline any other relevant discipline from PEC/HEC (as applicable) recognized institution of Pakistan or abroad.

2 M Phil Leading to PhD in Medical Sciences
 

MCAT with high sores or GAT (General) conducted by NTS with at least 50 raw score and MBBS with min 55% marks in aggregate. MSc/BSc (4 years) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with at least CGPA 2.5 out of 4.00 or 60% marks for M Phil in Bio Chemistry and Molecular Biology only.

3. M Phil Leading to PhD in Mathematics / Physics
 

GRE (General) with high score or GAT (General) conducted by NTS with at least 50 raw score and MSc / BSc (4 years) Equivalent qualification in Mathematics / Physics or related field from HEC recognized institution of Pakistan or abroad.

4. M Phil Leading to PhD in Virology & Immunology
 

MCAT with high sores or GAT (General) conducted by NTS with at least 50 raw score and MSc in Life Sciences, BSc (4 years) in Agriculture / Chemical Engineering / Pharmacy with CGPA 2.5 out of 4.00 (60% marks) or MBBS / BVM / BDS with at least 55% marks.

5. M Phil Leading to PhD in Management Sciences
 

MBA / MPA / MBE / MBA-IT / M Com/ Masters in Economics / Equivalent qualification with minimum 70 % marks or 3.0 out of 4.0 CGPA and GAT (General) conducted by NTS with at least 50 raw score or GMAT with minimum score of 50 percentile

6. Business Administration Programs
 
  1. Regular MBA
    GMAT with high score or GAT (General) conducted by NTS with at least 50 raw score and 16 years of education (04 years Bachelors) from an institute recognized by PEC / HEC / PM&DC (as applicable) with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.00 or 1st Division (60% marks). The %age will only be valid, if CGPA is not mentioned in the Bachelor’s degree or academic transcript. No third Division and only one 2nd Division throughout the academic career (less terminal degree) is allowed. Candidate for MBA will be required to qualify the interview for final selection.

  2. Executive MBA
    GMAT with high score or GAT (General) conducted by NTS with atleast 50 raw score or qualifying NUST Test and a minimum of 4 years of full time work experience in an executive position and bachelors or masters or an equivalent qualification (minimum 14 years education) from a university recognized by HEC. No 3rd Div/Grade D is allowed in academic career.

Entrance Examination
 

Preference will be given to candidates of MS / M Phil leading to PhD program with GRE (General) / GMAT / MCAT scores. The vacancies will be initially filled from the merit list prepared on the basis of GRE (General) / GMAT / MCAT scores. The remaining vacancies will be filled up from merit list based on GAT (General) conducted by NTS. The minimum threshold for GAT (General) will be 50%. The candidates admitted in the Postgraduate and PhD program will be re-imbursed the fee for the GRE (General) / GRE (Subject) / GMAT. MCAT test, as applicable on production of original results from ETS once only, whether they joined on the basis of these tests or appeared in them later for consideration into NUST PhD abroad program during the course of their studies at NUST.

Engineering, IT and Mathematics:

The minimum score required for each subject of GRE (General) conducted by ETS, USA would be:
 

  • Quantitative                                    650 / 800
  • Verbal                                            500 / 800
  • Analytical Writing                           4.0 / 6.0
The weight age of each subject of GRE (General) conducted by ETS, USA would be:
  • Quantitative                                    40%

Medical Sciences:

All applicants for admission in M Phil leading to PhD programs in Medical Sciences will be required to appear and qualify GRE (General) / MCAT or GAT (General) conducted by NTS or MCAT test conducted by ETS, USA. The weight age of each subject of MCAT conducted by ETS, USA would be:-

  • Physical Sciences                          35%
  • Biological Sciences                       35%
  • Verbal Reasoning                          20%
  • Writing Sample                             10%
Management Sciences:
All applicants for admission in postgraduate programs in Management Science will be required to undergo GAT (General) conducted by NTS and obtain high score (minimum 50%) or appear in GMAT conducted by ETS Princeton USA. The weightage of each subject is as given below:
  • Quantitative                               40%
  • Verbal                                      40%
  • Analytical Writing                      20%

Note: Applicants who have been awarded Scholarship by MoST (Ministry of Science & Technology) / HEC or other Government Agencies / Organizations will be considered for admission on merit in comparison with other candidates. They will have to meet the Eligibility Criteria and academics standards of the respective PG programs and undergo GAT (General) conducted by NTS and obtain atleast 50% score.

PG Selection & Admission Procedure (Engineering/ IT, Medical, Mathematics & MBA)
 

Admission of postgraduate students in various disciplines of Engineering / Information Technology, Management Sciences, Mathematics and Medical Sciences will be based upon GRE (General) type test GAT (General) conducted by NTS, previous academic record and an interview conducted by respective College / Institute / Centre. Qualifying in interview (at least 50% marks) and positive recommendation in interview from College / Institute / Centre will be mandatory for admission, International GRE (General) / GMAT / MCAT with high scores is also accepted. The details are:-

  • GRE (General) / GMAT / MCAT Scores. Preference will be given to high GRE (General) / GMAT / MCAT scores as applicable for various disciplines. The vacancies will be initially filled from the merit list prepared on the basis of these scores, previous academic record and interview. 

  • GAT (General) Conducted by NTS. The remaining vacancies will be filled up from the Merit list based on GAT (General), previous academic record and interview.  

  • Candidates selected on the basis of GAT Score will be considered only for entry to indigenous MS leading to PhD and PhD Program. They will have to appear in GRE (General) test for consideration for PhD abroad program.

  • GRE (General) / GMAT / MCAT fee will be reimbursed to the candidates once only, whether they joined on the basis of GRE (General) / GMAT / MCAT or appeared in these tests later for consideration into NUST PhD abroad program during the course of their studies at NUST.

  • The weightings of GRE (General) / GMAT / MCAT / GAT Score, previous academic record and interviews are given as under:-

Engineering & IT:
Admission in Masters leading to PhD and PhD Programs will be based on the following weightings:-
  • GRE (General) / GAT (General) Score                 50%
  • Previous Academic Record                                   25%

Medical Sciences:
Admission in M Phil leading to PhD programs will be based on the following weightings:-
  • MCAT / GAT (General) Score                            50%

Management Sciences:
Final merit list of MBA / MPhil will be prepared by assigning following weightings:
  • GMAT / GAT (General) Score                           50%

Mathematics / Physics:

*Qualifying in interview (at least 50% marks) and positive recommendations of College / Institute / Centre is mandatory requirement for final selection of a candidate.
Selected candidates for admission will be informed of their selection by post by the university.

Merit List
 

A list of names (discipline-wise) shall be prepared in strict order of merit called the Merit list which will be uploaded on the NUST website. Subject to the availability of any vacant seats next candidates on the Merit List will be offered admission until the commencement of the academic session.

Waiting List

A short list of names (discipline-wise) shall be prepared in strict order of merit called the waiting list and these candidates shall be informed accordingly. Subject to the availability of any vacant seats and the condoning of the late admission by the Rector, the candidates on the waiting list will be offered admission until the commencement of the academic session.

Security Clearance

Security clearance will be obtained from the concerned authorities as per the requirement. Those not cleared will not be granted admission.

The Rector of the University can reject application for admission of any student without assigning any reason

Medical Fitness

In NUST colleges/ institutes, a student is required to be medically fit to undertake the studies and practical / physical work in the desired discipline. Selected students will be required to provide medical fitness certificate to NUST along with the willingness certificate for joining NUST. The blank medical certificate will be mailed to selected students along with the provisional selection letter.

Selection to the Direct Indigenous PhD Program
Selection of eligible candidates to the Direct Indigenous PhD Program is dependent on their GRE (Subject) / GRE Subject Type Test score, as applicable, their acceptance by a supervisor and evaluation based on their research proposals.

Award of Discipline

The selected candidates on receipt of provisional selection letter, will send a bank draft/pay order in favor of National University of Sciences and Technology, for the admission fee for first semester by post or deliver by hand to NUST, Sector H-12, Islamabad.

Willingness Certificate

A willingness certificate for joining NUST in the discipline and the program/session as mentioned in the selection letter should also be sent by specified date. The candidate will then wait for the joining instructions from the concerned college. The college will issue joining instructions on receipt of the details of selected candidates who submit the bank draft/pay order and willingness certificate on due date. Any instructions for pre-course training will be issued by concerned college/institute.
For the subsequent semesters, the students will deposit the tuition fees of each semester as per college instructions, in advance through the NUST accountants at the colleges.
Selected students will be issued with Registration Cards by NUST after security clearance which will also be utilized as Students Identity Cards.
The admission is liable to cancellation should the candidate be found guilty of suppression or misrepresentation of material facts at any stage. The Rector can further debar him/her from seeking admission in the University and its constituent colleges/institutes. The other universities in the country will also be informed about it.
Should a candidate fail to take admission as required and does not join his class on or before the specified date, his seat will be declared vacant and will be filled up from the candidates on the waiting list.
The Rector is competent to cancel or withdraw admission of any candidate after hearing him.

Instructions to fill Application Forms
 
While submitting the application form, the student should ensure the following :-
  • Applicants applying for engineering disciplines should enter the codes for the three (or less) preferences of disciplines and colleges in the order of priority.

  • Cross out blank columns on form.

  • The codes for the disciplines of the concerned college/institute/centre where these are being offered be entered keeping in view the location and convenience. Request for change of location/college/institution will not be accepted at a later stage.

  • Choices of preference once filled will not be changed in any case at any stage.

Submission of Online Application Form
 
MS / MPhil leading to PhD and MBA Programs
  • The PG Admission Form can be filled online by following the information given at NUST website www.nust.edu.pk link “online PG Admission Form”. Separate forms for Engineering IT, Management Sciences and Medical Sciences/Applied Sciences are available on website.
  • The online system will assign a unique candidate identity number (CIN) to each applicant, which must be noted for later use.
  • Each candidate will also forward scanned copies of following documents with the online application mentioning CIN on each:-
    a. Copies of terminal degree and transcript / Detail Marks Certificate.
    b. Copy of deposit slip worth Rs. 700/-.
  • Each candidate will forward following documents through mail or by hand, within 05 days of submitting online application form mentioning CIN on each.
  • 2 x attested copies of Matric/Equivalent certificate along with detailed mark certificate (DMC).
  • 2 x attested copies of Intermediate certificate along with detailed mark certificate (DMC).
  • 2 x attested copies of Undergraduate degree along with transcript.
  • 2 x attested copies of Masters degree along with transcript (if applicable).
  • Attested copy of NIC.
  • Attested copy of GAT (Gen) / GRE / GMAT score card.
  • Bank Draft in original, worth Rs 700/- in favour of NUST, Islamabad.
  • Applicants applying for Engineering / IT discipline should select the discipline and institution in order of priority.

International Students
 

NUST has reserved a few seats in most of the disciplines for foreign students or Pakistanis holding foreign nationality and Pakistanis living abroad.

The Eligibility Criteria for foreign students is the same as for local students. The applicant may either take the entrance test or appear for GRE (General) and GMAT.

International students are not eligible for foreign PhD schemes.
Last date for the results of GRE (General) Revised Pattern, GMAT and MCAT to reach NUST Headquarters is 20 July.

Entrance Test:
Foreign students/Pakistanis living abroad will take and submit the result of following tests for admission against the reserved seats for foreign students.

Merit List:

Merit list of foreign students will be prepared separately for admission.

Clearance:

Cases of foreign students, finally selected for admission in NUST constituent colleges/institutions will be referred to the Govt of Pakistan for clearance. Security clearance will be obtained from the concerned authorities as per the requirement. Those not cleared will not be admitted.

 
Financial Effects:
  • Foreign students selected through this process will be required to pay their fees etc. in US $. See details in `Money Matters'.
  • Pakistani candidates may also apply for admission through GRE (General) / GMAT against these reserved seats for foreign students provided they pay all fee etc. in US $ and at the rates for foreign students. This option is in addition to applying through normal NUST entrance test.
  • Pakistanis living abroad may also be granted admission through GAT (General) conducted by NTS and pay fee in Pak Rupees. However, they will have to come to one of the exam centres in Pakistan to appear for GAT (General).
  • Please note that whatever channel is adopted, admission is granted only to those who come upto the required position on the merit list.
Accommodation:
Accommodation to the foreign students under NUST arrangement is guaranteed.
