| BE Materials Engineering |
|
Materials and Surface Engineering is arguably the most important engineering discipline today. Starting from the study of structure, composition and properties of materials it covers the manufacturing and processes details. Surface Engineering has emerged in recent years as the avant-garde of Materials Technology, whereby expensive materials with adequate mechanical, chemical and thermal properties are deposited on the surface of regular substrates in order to achieve what is called as surface engineered materials. These are cost effective, long life and in some cases only options available for a severe and demanding application. Special applications range from aeronautical, chemical and textile industry to space and defense industry.
In the age of Nano-Technology and Nano-Materials, research and development in the Materials Technology has become primordial for a nation like ours. Nano-technology research has primarily focused on molecular manufacturing, the creation of tools, materials, machines and devices that will eventually enable us to snap together the fundamental building blocks of nature, easily, inexpensively and in particular with defect free properties. The Masters program in Materials and Surface Engineering is geared to produce scientists and researchers of the future who can develop and use these materials for the betterment of the society.
