NUST Flood Relief Campaign 2014

This year Pakistan has faced by two national level disasters. After Operation Zarb by Army to curb out terrorists in North Waziristan displaced many, the monsoon season brought disastrous flood to Punjab and Sindh.

The floods to this date have claimed 359 lives and injured more than 600 people according to the NDMA. Additionally, 56,612 houses have been damaged, with 1.7 million people being affected and 685,000 needing to be evacuated. The floods have caused massive devastation in Punjab, with areas like Multan, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang and Chiniot being the most affected. In Sindh 48,592 people had to be evacuated from areas like Sukkur and Larkana and 50 villages have been submerged underwater in Pannu Aqil. This flood has been among the deadliest in Pakistani history.

After a successful IDP relief campaign, NUST Administration in collaboration with NUST Community Service Club (NCSC) TABA team launched Flood relief drive on campus and through social media. The response has been encouraging and so far Rs. 194,115 has been collected. A team from EME has also collected more than 7 lacs.  Students, Faculty and staff of all schools are encouraged to help us identify any affected area where help could be provided.
