NCSC conducts Disaster Preparedness and Response Workshop

NUST Community Service CSL-401 course participants attended the second workshop of the course titled Disaster Preparedness and Response workshop on 16 and 18 September, 2014 at SMME Seminar Hall and NBS Seminar Hall respectively. The workshop was held for course participants of SMME, ASAB, SNS, SADA, SCME, NBS and S3H.

It was a highly informative workshop covering all the aspects of disaster management. The workshop started with basic definitions for the relevant terminologies associated with Disaster response and preparation. Earthquakes and Floods were the two disasters focused on by the instructor Dr Syed Irtiza Ali Shah. It was shown that Disaster response as well as preparedness is the two phases in disaster management that require the most volunteer efforts.

The participants were encouraged to thoroughly prepare for a disaster during peace times so that things are under control when God forbid a disaster strikes. They were provided with a lot of valuable information from what things to pack when fleeing the area to how to help the people affected.

In the second session of the workshop the students were shown a video of the Operation Labaik carried out by the army rescuing and helping the flood affectees. Towards the end the students were free to ask questions that were patiently answered after which they were given handouts to take with them.

A delegation from Bahria University, Islamabad also attended the workshop at SMME Seminar Hall and a delegation from NUML university attended the workshop at NBS Seminar Hall.
