Free Eye Camp 2015 in collaboration with Al-Shifa Trust
As per its tradition, NUST Administration and NUST Community Service Club (NCSC) organized a free Eye Camp for NUST students, Faculty members and NG Staff on 17 April 2015, at the Medical Centre, NUST; in collaboration with Al-Shifa Eye Trust, an esteemed and trusted organization based out of Islamabad.

Al-Shifa was established in 1985 and has since been working for the betterment of Ocular Patients. To date the institute has treated half a million patients, operated on 500,000 more and provided 70% of the patients with free medical care.

As per the directives of Director Administration, Brig. Arif Mahmud Siddiqui; NCSC reached out to take assistance from Al-Shifa Eye Trust in order to arrange a free Eye Camp for the NG staff, faculty and students of NUST. The camp included qualified doctors and efficient staff of 18 members of Al-Shifa Trust assisted by commendable arrangement by NUST administration and organizing team of NCSC executives and volunteers all of whom were students of NUST.

The aim of the camp was to provide the general Non-Gusseted (NG) staff with free eye check-ups, free medicine and free glasses to those in need.
Initially, the camp was being organized for two days but due to an unforeseen commitment by Al-Shifa Trust team, the camp was limited to one day only. The turnout was expected to be around 400 patients.
However, this year, the turnout was remarkable; a staggering 735 people were facilitated in a single day. It should be noted that most of the people among the treated were Non-Gusseted staff, which were the main target of the campaign.
At 9 am sharp, a continuous stream of people gathered around the registration desks to collect their prescriptions while the talented team of 18 from Al-Shifa trust eye hospital comprised of lady doctors, paramedics staff and male doctors worked tirelessly and efficiently whole day long and getting only the Friday sermon break. The camp saw separate tents for males and females which were catered regularly by NCSC executives and NUST Administration staff who all worked with passion to do something good for the community. The first half of the day catered NUST NG staff and their families while the second half catered NUST students, faculty and staff. There were 539 males and 196 females who were catered in the eye camp.

The total breakdown of the camp is given below:
·    NG staff: 425
·    Officers and Faculty: 86
·    Students: 224
·    Total medicines distributed: 188
·    Total glasses distributed: 352

The event was concluded in a timely and professional manner at 5 pm. Souvenirs were distributed to the Al-Shifa team by Pro-Rector P & R, General Shahid and a group photo was taken at the end which marked the end of this successful event.  The event’s success was certainly not possible without the efforts of NUST administration and their staff. DD Administration, Major Zubair, also lauded NCSC’s council and executives efforts and encouraged everyone to keep up the humanitarian work in the future.
