Local QECs

​ Local Quality Enhancement Cells at NUST Institutions 

NUST has a unique structure of having twenty-two teaching institutions as colleges, schools, institutes and centers. These institutions are independent in their working but under academic control of the NUST. In order to effectively implement the QA policies and programs with uniform pace and standard across the university, a Local Quality Enhancement Cells (LQEC) has been established at each constituent institution which functions in collaboration with QAD. Following are the profiles of the Directors of LQECs:​

Dr. Zahid Mehmood received his B. Engg from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan in 2003. He then worked as a Technical Manager in Aviation industry for six years before undertaking MS (Solid Mechanics) studies at Air University, Islamabad, Pakistan from 2009 to 2011. He then worked as a lecturer at National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad (NUST), Pakistan from 2011-2014. He pursued his PhD focusing at “Design and Materials Optimization for MEMS sensors” at Air University, Islamabad with a one year Visiting Researcher position at University of Cambridge, UK under the Knowledge Economy Partnership grant provided jointly by British Council and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. He has authored/co-authored ninteen international refereed journal papers and conference papers. His research interests include materials and design optimization of CMOS MEMS pressure sensors, flow sensors and temperature sensors. Since January, 2020, he is performing duties as Director LQEC, CAE NUST.

​ Dr A.Q.Malik did his PhD in Physical Chemistry in 1986 from the University of ESSEX (England), the UK. He has about fifty years experimental/R & D experience in Defence Science & Technology Organization (DESTO) including over ten years academic experience in SCME (NUST). During his stay in DESTO & SCME (NUST) he also gained experienced in Quality Assurance (QA). In recognition of his meritorious services, he was awarded President's award for Pride of Performance in the field of Explosives Engineering in 2001. Besides, his name has been included in “Galaxies of who's who in Pakistan 2007" designated as “Star Laureate 2007" by South Asia publications. He is presently working as senior faculty member in the School of Chemical & Materials Engineering (SCME) since January 2006".

​Dr. Shahzad Rasool joined the Research Center for Modeling and Simulation (RCMS), National University of Science and Technology (NUST) as an Assistant Professor at in August 2016. Previously, he worked as a Research Fellow at the Immersive Mathematics Lab of Fraunhofer IDM @ NTU, Singapore from 2014 to 2016. He received his Ph.D. from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore in 2014, M.Sc. degree in Communication Engineering from Technische Universität München (TUM), Germany in 2009 and B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Taxila, Pakistan in 2006. In 2008, he worked as a research intern at DOCOMO Communications Laboratories Europe, Munich. His research interests include haptics, virtual reality and HCI   Since January, 2020, he is performing duties as Director LQEC, CAE NUST.

​Dr. Muhammad Shahid Siddique is Assistant Professor at Military College of Engineering, Risalpur.  He holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Germany. During PhD his area of research was Multi-hazard risk assessment, considering two major hazards of Pakistan (Earthquakes and floods).

​He has more than five years of work experience as structural design engineer in national and international organizations. He has four (04) years post PhD teaching experience and is teaching graduates and postgraduate students on the subject of concrete structure design. He is also performing duty of Director Local Quality Enhancement Cell (DLEQC) at Military College of Engineering (MCE), Risalpur Campus of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST).

Dr Muhammad Abbas is BE in Electrical Engineering from NED University Karachi. He has done M.S. and PhD in Information System Engineering from the University of Manchester, UK. He is currently working at NUST College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering as a Professor at the Department of Computer Engineering. He has significant industrial experience as a maintenance engineer. He has multiple highly cited publications in international journals and conferences.  His research interests include application of software engineering, software quality engineering, software project management and ERP systems.  He is performing duties as Director LQEC, for College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (CE&ME), NUST.

Dr Adeel has been working in academia and industry for 10+ years. He has completed his PhD as a Fulbright scholar from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA in 2013.His research interests include Machine learning and Bio-medical engineering.

Design and development of algorithmic trading models. He has performed as Data Science/Business Analytics consultant with Binary Vibes, Karachi, Co-Op at Panasonic Innovation Center; worked on the collaborative filtering models, client server framework for automotive applications and the personalized automotive HMI design and development and Co-Op at The MathWorks Inc.; worked with the bioinformatics toolbox development group on Matlab function development.

He has been involved in the following areas: Analysis of an automated document processing system for the design of optical character recognition system, Design of Key Performance Indicators for software developers and development of software for KPI administration, Design and development of Data Science tool for effective management of marketing campaign for Telco industry, Design and simulation of novel Intelligent Transportation algorithms employing variable speed limits and traffic prediction for congestion alleviation on freeways, Analysis of performance of FPGAs and DSPs in novel Bioinformatics applications, Medical Image Analysis, Classification and Segmentation, Distributed Application Processing Framework design for computational intensive mobile applications, Text to Speech and Speech to Text integration in the Automotive HMI, Audio/Video synchronization on multiple screens based on pattern detection and Travel-time prediction on freeways based on advanced machine learning methods.

​Dr Saeed Murtaza did her Ph.D (1992) in Physics with specialization in Mathematical Modelling and Computer Simulations from the School Physics and Space Research. The University of Birmingham, UK. After doing his PhD, Dr Saeed Murtaza joined a very prestigious Govt. Organization and was actively involved in research of very sensitive nature for six years. He joined NUST in 1998 as Asstt Prof. He was promoted to assoc Prof in 2000. He teaches many different mathematics course at UG and PG level. He has supervised many UG and PG final semesters / degree projects. He is also a member of Guidance and Evaluation Committee (GEC) of many PhD students. His area of interest is mathematical modeling and simulation of physical processes.

He has received PhD from a leading school of a public sector university, situated in the financial capital of China, the Shanghai fully funded by Chinese Scholarship Council. Over the course of his doctoral degree he has authored/co-authored more than 30 research articles. His research appeared in leading journals including ACS Energy Letters, ACS Applied Energy Materials, Applied Catalysis B Environmental, Chemical Communications, Nature Scientific Reports and ACS Applied Material and Interface with approximately 200 aggregate impact factor. He is now part of IESE, NUST and along with his research and teaching also performs as DLQEC of respective institute.  He is performing duties as Director LQEC, for  IESE- NUST.​​

Dr. Ali Tahir received his BSc (Hons) degree in Computing and Information Systems in 2004 from Oxford Brookes University and subsequently a Master’s degree in Geographical Information Science (GIS) from University of Nottingham in 2006. He completed his PhD in Geoinformatics from the School of Computer Science and Informatics at University College Dublin, Ireland. Recently, he has completed his post-doctorate at the Geo-Environmental Research Centre, School of Engineering, Cardiff University.

Dr. Abdur Rehman Nasir is a civil engineer with 08 years of experience of working in the construction industry and research.  Dr. Nasir has got the 04 years exposure of working with the major construction stakeholders i.e. Client, Consultant and the Construction Contractor. Mr. Nasir has taken part in various local and international research studies during his Masters and Ph.D. studies pertaining to Building Information Modeling, Construction law, Cost and Time Overruns in Construction Industry, Construction Labor social position, Machine and Labor Productivity, Construction Instructional Design and Virtual Reality in Construction.

​Dr. Muhammad Usman is currently Director LQEC and Assistant Professor at NUST Institute of Civil Engineering. He did his undergraduate degree from Military College of Engineering-NUST in civil engineering. His MS and PHD degrees are from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea which is among top 30 universities of the world. He has a vast teaching experience and have over 40 research publications in high impact Journals and conferences. He has also been involved in thesis supervision of more than MS and PhD students. He has the experience of basic and advanced level trainings for faculty and Program team level administrative staff.​​

​Dr. Zaib Ali holds PhD degree in Engineering from University of Cambridge, UK. He is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from College of EME, NUST and completed his Masters in Computational Mechanics from University of Wales, Swansea, UK in 2009. He research interests include Computational Fluid Dynamics, grid generation for Computational Mechanics, Computational Aeroacoustics and Engineering Optimization. He has authored and collaborated on several journal and conference articles. He is recipient of MSc Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, Cambridge Trusts PhD Scholarship, and Rolls-Royce Research grant. Currently, he is member of Computational Mechanics Research Group at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.

​Engr. Taufique-ur-Rehman is a graduate of College of Aeronautical Engineering and earned his bachelor’s degree from NED University of Engg and Technology Karachi in Avionics Engineering.  He did his MS in Software Engineering from NUST, Pakistan in 2004 with the President’s Gold Medal for attaining first position with a cumulative GPA of 3.92 on a scale of 4.0.  Through an extended career of more than three decades, he carries a highly diversified experience of serving on a wide variety of assignments.  From being Officer-in-charge of the entire Telecommunications Network of Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamra to Director Networks at Air Headquarters Islamabad, he has an extensive experience and significant contributions in the field of ICT, along with teaching at CAE, RCMS and currently in Dept. of Computing at SEECS since September, 2015.  In addition to teaching, he is also assigned the additional responsibilities of LQEC, Faculty Sponsor NUST Entrepreneurs Club and also overseeing SEECS Student Affairs and Industrial Liaison Offices.  During his previous service, he also been duly acknowledged through various awards conferred upon him at different occasions of his career including, TI (M), awarded on 23 March, 2004 and Professional Excellence Badge (PEB), awarded on 28 July, 1997.

Dr. Ayesha is a Ph.D Entrepreneurship of Essex Business School, University of Essex, UK and M.Sc Economics, University of Peshawar. She is specialized in Gender and Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurial learning and dynamic capabilities, creative industries. She has over 13 years of experience as an academician. She joined NUST business school in July 2018. Prior to that she was attached to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar as Assistant Professor. Dr. Ayesha also has teaching experience at Essex Business School and worked as research assistant at International Centre for Entrepreneurship Research (ICER), The Venture Academy at Essex Business School.  Currently she is performing duties as DLQEC at NUST Business School (NBS).

​Dr. Henna Qureshi is working in National University of Science and Technology (NUST) since Jan, 2019. She holds a PhD in Communication in Mentoring from Friedrich Schiller University, Germany, where she has specialized in mentoring relationships as a trainer for mentors and mentees. Dr. Qureshi is a Fulbright & FDPA-NUST Alumni as well as Pro-chance funding awardee. She has been trained as a teacher trainer with focus on TESOL as part of MS Education degree at University of Pennsylvania, USA. She has also earned MA English Literature and Language degree from Quaid-e-Azam University. Dr. Henna Qureshi has taught in Germany (school & university), USA (school & Industry) & Pakistan (school & university). She is an avid believer of mentoring at all levels for achieving higher standards. Her research interests include TESOL, SLT, Mentoring, & Grounded Theory. Currently she is performing duties as Asst. Dr. Rabia Amir is serving as an Assistant Professor at Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences (ASAB), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) since, April 2014. She received her B.Sc (Hons) and M.Sc (Hons) degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Pir Mehr Ali Shah, Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi. She was awarded a Gold medal and a Silver Medal in her B.SC (Hons) and M.SC (Hons) respectively. She was also awarded a Gold medal by ABN AMRO Bank on the basis of highest percentage in the entire University. Soon after her M.Sc (Hons) degree she was offered a foreign research internship in University of Leicester, UK. During her research internship, she was awarded a prestigious overseas scholarship by Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan to commence her PhD studies at one of the finest and top ranked institute of the world, University of Edinburgh (UK). In December 2013, she acquired her PhD degree from University of Edinburgh in the field of Plant Cell and Molecular Biology and returned to Pakistan to serve the nation.   she is performing duties as Asst. ​Dr. Muhammad Ishaq and working as Assistant Professor at School of Natural Sciences (SNS), National University of Science and Technology Islamabad, with effect from 7th May, 2012. I completed my Ph.D in February 2012 from Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences GC University Lahore. My area of research is Commutative Algebra. In this area, I have five research papers which are published or have been accepted for publications in ISI journals. I participated and gave talks in algebra conferences organized by ASSMS. I visited Institute of Mathematics “Simion Stoilow” of the Romanian Academy on their invitation for scientific collaboration. During my stay in Romania I completed two research papers.

​Ms. Seema Andleeb Nasir is regular visiting faculty of School of Art Design and Architecture – SADA, National University of Science & Technology (NUST).  She Provide high quality instruction and support to 4th year Students and Teach Architectural Design Studio besides working as the main coordinator for the entire course work.  Guided the students of 8th semester during several design competitions where students achieved first position in PIDE Competition, second position in Dawarka competition, honorable mention in AYDA competitions.  Contributed the role in designing the New Senate Library year 2017 at parliament House Islamabad.  Successfully Participated and attained First position in the Design Competition Centre for Gender Studies &women Rights, Lahore, November 2017 organized by Higher Education Commission, Islamabad. Successfully achieved Best Teacher award for the academic year 2018-19.  She is performing duties as Director LQEC, for  SADA- NUST.​

Dr. Muhammad Hassan did MS and PhD in Bio-Environmental & Energy Engineering from Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing, China in June 2017. He has joined NUST in August 2017. Besides that, He has taught several practical engineering courses like Mechanics of Material, Structural Design, Biofuel Engineering, Energy from Biomass, Energy & Environment and Engineering Mechanics. He has authored and co-authored more than 50 Publications. He has won excellent young scientist award from Chinese scholarship counsel Beijing in 2016. His research areas are microbial desalination fuel cells, solid oxide fuel cells, Nano-catalyst development, methane production from biomass, bioethanol, biodiesel biochar, biomass densification and wastewater treatment.  He is performing duties as Director LQEC, for  U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS)​.​​

 Dr. Ahmed Waqas Waheed took graduate training at the University of Sussex, UK and completed his Ph.D. from Queen Mary, University of London, UK. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Centre of  International Peace and Stability, NUST. He has previously taught at such reputable institutions as Forman Christian College Lahore and Bahria University Islamabad.​

Dr. Muhammad M. Tahseen received M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Blekinge Institute of Technology, Karlskrona, Sweden, in 2011, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Concordia University, Montreal, QC, Canada, in 2017. From 2012 to 2017, he was a Teaching and Research Assistant with Concordia University.  From 2017 to 2019, he has worked as a Post-Doc Fellow in (1) INRS-EMT, (2) Concordia University, and (3) Polytechnique University, all three places in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  Dr. Tahseen was a recipient of the Concordia University Cross-Department Research Fellowship ‘‘FOYER’’. His paper was honored with the Best Student Paper Award in the International Conference "ANTEM" in 2016. He has served as a Session Chair in international conferences.  He is currently serving as DLQEC at  RIMMS, National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan.

Engr Shahzaib khan joined National University of Science and technology (NUST) in June 2019 as a lecturer. He is a civil engineer graduated from UET Lahore with a Master's degree in Construction Engineering and Management from NUST. His research interests include waste management and lean construction. Before joining NUST Mr. Shahzaib worked as an Assistant Planning Engineer at Pre-Engineered Building Industries (PEBI) and served as a trainee at CAMEOS Consultants. ​He is currently serving as DLQEC at NUST  Baluchistan Campus, Department of Civil Engineering.​
