Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology visits NUST
Members of Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology, accompanied by Secretary Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Ms Yasmin Masood, paid a visit to the main campus of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) on Wednesday, December 05, 2018. 

The senators were given a comprehensive briefing on NUST’s functioning, multi-dimensional growth, teaching and research facilities, mega projects, including the establishment of Pakistan’s first university-hosted Science and Technology Park – the National Science and Technology Park (NSTP), and the Medical Devices Development Centre (MDDC), etc.
The esteemed guests commended the efforts of NUST management, faculty and researchers towards earning NUST a respectable niche among the world leaders in higher education and cutting-edge research. Stressing the need for promotion of quality tertiary education in the length and breadth of the country, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology admired NUST for taking its outreach initiatives to Balochistan and FATA/KPK to provide equal opportunities for quality higher education to students from under-privileged and remote areas of Pakistan.

The Chairman particularly mentioned the services of Dr Jahan Akbar, a PhD from Glasgow University (UK), who is currently heading the project of establishing a Spectroscopy Lab at the Hazara University with funding from the KPK government. At the occasion, Dr Akbar apprised audience of the immense scope of the lab, which would be first-of-its-kind in Pakistan and 3rd in the world at large. Ensuing was a guided tour of the campus, particularly School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS), School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME), Medical Devices Development Centre (MDDC) and Technology Incubation Centre (TIC). Prior to the campus tour, the Chairman also planted a tree at the main campus.
