Islamabad August 14 – National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Monday celebrated Pakistan’s 71st Independence Day with national spirit and renewed pledges to strengthen the dear motherland. In a ceremony held at the Jinnah Auditorium, Dr Abdul Ghafoor, Principal NUST School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME), hoisted the green and white flag followed by the national anthem.

Ensuing was screening of a documentary ‘A Journey to Independence’ and a series of heart-warming national songs amidst loud cheers from the audience comprising families of the faculty and staff, and an overwhelming number of students. Recounting the sacrifices our founding fathers rendered to get a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Indian sub-continent, the chief guest in his address emphasized that every Pakistani must play their part, no matter big or small, towards making Pakistan a model Islamic State in the real sense.

Earlier, extending his heartiest wishes to the nation on the completion of 70 years of independence, Lt Gen Naweed Zaman, HI (M), (Retd), Rector NUST, urged, “Let us resolve that though each dusk might be a new challenge, each dawn should be a goal achieved and a step towards making our beloved country what it was envisioned to be – a safe, strong & prosperous motherland for our future generations."
