“The biggest tool to change the destiny of nations is education”. This was shared by NUST delegation visiting Karachi Chamber Of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) on Saturday, 16th September 2017. Head of Advancement, Ms. Maria Qadri met President KCCI, Mr. Shamim Firpo and discussed multiple avenues of partnership between NUST & KCCI, across a range of disciplines that embraces engineering, natural sciences, management and social sciences. Later, she gave a presentation on NUST Endowment for Educational Development- the NEED initiative to members of KCCI.
Ms. Maria shared that NUST as a premier forward-looking national higher education institution of Pakistan has consistently been rubbing shoulders with its contemporaries in the elite league of the Top 500 Universities of the World for the past decade, as per the rankings carried out by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), UK. Each academic year, around 64% of the qualifying students come from socio-economically challenged backgrounds, belonging to the lower and lower middle income families. These students stand unable to materialize their academic aspirations without financial support. In response to this need, in last seven years alone, NUST has disbursed nearly USD 16 million in scholarships from its own accounts but is unable to meet the higher demand of financial support due to financial constraints. NEED initiative generates pool of resources to generate financial stability and support the brilliant young minds at NUST. Therefore, NUST calls out to community and organizations to play their part in this in initiative of national significance.
President KCCI, Mr. Shamim Firpo along with members of Managing Committee thanked NUST delegation for the visit and vowed full support of the chamber for the cause.
