Proudly announcing the victory of NUST College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (CEME) at the Regional (Pakistan) Finals of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2019, defeating almost 350 teams from 80 Pakistani universities. Imagine Cup is an annual competition, sponsored and hosted by Microsoft Corporation, that brings together students aspiring to be developers from all over the world, to help resolve some of the world's toughest challenges through innovative solutions. Termed the "Olympics of Technology," the Imagine Cup is considered one of the top competitions in technology and software design.
This year was special as HEC and Microsoft jointly sponsored the competition.
The winning solution is EKKO - a therapeutic device, based on neurocognitive transmission theory, that can be used in the treatment of speech disabilities and rehabilitation of children suffering from cerebral palsy and some autism spectrum disorders. EKKO provides a handheld device that can be used by any member of the family for their ward.
The team belongs to the Department of Computer and Software Engineering (DC&SE), NUST CEME; it was led by Dr Muhammad Usman Akram, Associate Professor DC&SE, and comprised Muhammad Usman Khalid, Yaqoob Jamal and Zainab Ahmad. Other faculty supervisors included Dr Sajid Gul Khawaja and Lec Ali Saeed.
The winning team will represent Pakistan in the Global Regional Finals for EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Australia), to be held from 17-20 March, in Amsterdam, Holland. The Global Finals of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2019 will be held in USA later in the year.
