Islamabad March 22, 2017: As many as 372 students were awarded degrees at the 5th Undergraduate / Postgraduate Convocation of School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SCEE), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). Lt Gen Naweed Zaman HI, (M), (Retd), Rector NUST, graced the occasion as chief guest. In his convocation address, the Rector extended his heartiest felicitations to the graduating students, their parents and faculty. He said that the graduates were amongst the luckiest few, who had the opportunity to acquire education at the country’s premier university, which is also ranked amongst the top-notch universities of the world. He advised them to put in consistent hard work as professionals and abstain themselves from things contrary to the established norms and ethics. He also appreciated the efforts of Principal SCEE and his team for putting School of Civil and Environmental Engineering on a strong footing.
The Rector apprised the audience that NUST is fully poised to play a leading role in turning the country into a knowledge-driven economy, and producing a workforce fully equipped to meet the impending needs. He said that NUST has been striving to promote the culture of entrepreneurship at the national level. “In order to cater for the needs of emerging and young entrepreneurs, NUST has established the Technology Incubation Centre, which is currently housing 34 start-up companies with 250 knowledge workers,” he added.
At the occasion, the Rector awarded degrees to the graduates along with gold medals to the distinction holders. In MS programs, gold medalists included Malik Kamran Shakir, Muhammad Adeel, Jamal Ali, Maleeha Jamal, Nazeer Abbas, Maryam Zafar, Tahir Saeed and Shahid Mehmood Akhtar. In BS programs gold medals were awarded to Shozab Mustafa, Hafiz Zargham Bin Imran, Syed Haider Ali, Ms Fatima Afzal and Syed Ramiz Sami.
