The NUST School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME) organised Open House and Job Fair for its graduating batch of Mechanical Engineers.
The main objective of organising this event was to showcase the final year projects of the graduating students before the industry and to provide an opportunity for the industrial experts to interact first hand with the young engineers in order to facilitate the hiring process.
The event was attended by wide industrial experts including senior engineers and executives from both public and private sector.A total of 15 projects from various sectors including automotive, robotics, renewable energy, manufacturing, oil and gas etc were displayed by the students. The visiting industrialists greatly appreciated the high degree of innovation demonstrated by the displayed projects.
In his remarks on the occasion, NUST-SMME Principal Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghafoor appreciated the efforts of the students and urged all the industry leaders and chief executives of various organisations to try the graduates of the school who have been groomed to meet the expectations of the high paced technological world of the 21st century. The school launched its Undergraduate Programme in Mechanical Engineering in Fall 2009. The school’s establishment was also undertaken in parallel.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Abdul Razzak Gohar, Chief Executive Officer Infinity Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, deeply appreciated the efforts of the students and also praised the faculty and administration of the school for delivering high quality engineers to the industry. He also announced sponsorship of Industrial Gold Medal as well as a cash prize of Rs50,000 from his industry for this year’s Best Industrial Project to be selected by the visiting industrial experts.
The final decision of best industrial project will be announced later based on the recommendations of the visiting industrial experts.The visiting Industry representatives also shortlisted a number of students for hiring in their organisations. Five students have already received appointment letters while remaining are hoped to be adjusted in the near future as the outcome of the Open House and Job Fair.
