Dr. Usman Liaqat received his PhD degree in Engineering (Nano Science and Technology) from Yonsei University, South Korea in 2017. He worked in the Lab of Tissue Regenerative Medicine during his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Suh Hwal. He also worked in collaboration with Nano Biosystem Lab at Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Yonsei University.  Having experience in these two labs gave him the opportunity to learn and get trained in different experimental techniques including thin film deposition, surface modification, material characterization, biological analysis (cell viability, cytotoxicity, protein expression, gene expression, cell cycle  etc.). During his PhD, Dr. Usman also worked on application of SPR  biosensors and QCM biosensor to monitor different cell activities.

Dr. Usman also worked in industry as R&D Officer and Project Manager for more than 2 years before his PhD, and later pursued his career in academia.​​​​

Dr. Usman started his research career from industry. He started working as R&D Officer in a private company soon after completion of his B.Sc. (Engineering) in Metallurgy and Materials Science.  His responsibilities were to improve the quality of the welding electrodes by studying the effects of different alloys and minerals, assist the quality department in the laboratory, provide welding solutions to different industrial sectors including cement industry and sugar industry etc. During his job, he managed to establish research collaboration between industry and academia. Later, he left the company to join Yonsei University, South Korea,  which is one of the best university of Asia, for his post graduate study. There, his main research area was polymeric biomaterial. He worked on the surface modification and application of polymeric biomaterial for bone regeneration. ​

Dr. Usman has worked in the industry (only manufacturers of special stick welding electrodes in Pakistan) as R&D Officer and Project Manager. He used to provide welding and surfacing solutions to different industrial sectors including cement industry and sugar industry. Along with this, his job was to improve the quality of the welding electrodes by studying the effects of different alloys and minerals. He also managed various on-site projects using the international project management method PRINCE2.
