Membrane Technology for Water and Wastewater Treatment
 
Introduction

Membrane Technology for Water and Wastewater Treatment’ Research Group started in January 2009 at IESE, NUST under the leadership of Dr. Sher Jamal Khan. The main areas of interest and research experience of the group leader include aerobic and anaerobic wastewater treatment technologies, membrane based technologies for water reclamation and desalination; solar energy based water treatment systems; membrane bioreactors (MBRs); forward osmosis (FO); reverse osmosis (RO), and membrane distillation (MD). He was awarded research grants from HEC, HEC-British Council (BC) and NUST R&D Fund worth PKR 4 Million, 7 Million, and 37 Million in 2009, 2011 and 2012, respectively. So far, he has authored and co-authored 33 international publications with h-index of 11. He has made 20 oral presentations at international conferences and organized 6 international workshops at NUST. He is a recipient of the Best Research Paper Award 2010-11 by the HEC and the Best Research Productivity Award 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 by the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST), Pakistan. So far, Dr Sher Jamal Khan has completed supervision of 2 PhD and 21 MS environmental engineering students. His research team at NUST successfully developed the decentralised water treatment system (DWTS) followed by field testing in Muzaffargarh District.
