A two member Japanese delegation visited Peacekeeping Training
Department (PKT)/ CIPS on 17 August 2016. Japan Defence Attaché Col Koji HIRATA
accompanied the delegates. The Delegation was received by Principal NIPCONS
Major General Mazhar Saleem (Retd). The delegation was given a comprehensive briefing
on NUST/ CIPS in general and PKT Dept in Particular. Mr Akira KONO was briefed
about the objectives and contributions of PKT Dept in Pre-Deployment Training
of Pakistan Army Personals proceeding in multidimensional UN Missions. In the
end, area of coordination between Japan Peacekeeping Training and Research Centre
(JPC) and PKT Dept, like exchange of instructors/ students, Peacekeeping
material/ analysis were discussed.
Mr Akira KONO while lauding the achievements of CIPS
mentioned that he was present at the inaugurations ceremony of CIPS in 2013. He
said he is pleasantly surprised to see that PKT Dept/ CIPS has done impressively
well in comprehensively training a large number of Peacekeepers as per UN
mandate in merely three years. Recognizing Pakistan Army Peacekeeping efforts, he
discussed on the possibilities of exchange of Instructors between JPC and PKT
Dept, inquired about the planned Protection of Civilian course and deliberated
at the measures of bar to improve cooperation between JPC and PKT Dept.
The visit ended in a joint understanding of enhancing
more cooperation between the two institutes. After two hours the visitors were seen
off by the Principal NIPCONS.
