A collaborative work published by groups in ASAB and RCMS have won the highly prestigious Best Research Paper Award for the year 2013/14 conferred by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. This collaborative research paper selected for the award was entitled “Formal Modelling of Toll like Receptor 4 and JAK/STAT Signalling Pathways: Insight into the Roles of SOCS-1, Interferon-beta and Proinflammatory Cytokines in Sepsis” authored by Dr Rehan Zafar Paracha, Dr Jamil Ahmad, Dr Amjad Ali, Dr Riaz Hussain, Dr Umar Niazi, Mr Samar Hayat Khan Tareen and Dr Babar Aslam from RCMS and ASAB in collaboration with Shifa College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Aberystwyth University, U.K. The award, consisting of a cash prize of Rs.70,000 for contributing authors and a certificate which was presented to Dr. Amjad Ali in a commemorative 5th HEC outstanding award ceremony organized at HEC on 24th June, 2016. This research employed the formal modelling and model-checking based verification of human signalling dynamics both in the case of sepsis and non-septic dynamics of immune signalling. This study provided a detailed insight into the disease systems and possible therapeutic intervention targets.
