Plant hybrid vigour and RNA-silencing

PhD (Plant Molecular Biology) from University of Wollongong and CSIRO, Plant Industry, Australia

Dr Kiran works as Assistant Professor at the Plant Biotechnology Department, Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences (ASAB),National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). She received her B.Sc (Hons)and M.Sc (Hons)
degree in Biotechnology from University of Karachi, Pakistan. She worked as the Research Fellow at the Agricultural Biotechnology division of Dr. A.Q.Khan Institute of Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering, University of Karachi. Her research was based on the nutritional improvement of crops, such as wheat and rice.In 2007, she was awarded the Australian Endeavour Awards to pursue her PhD in Australia. In 2013, she finished her PhD in the laboratories of Dr Ming-Bo Wang and Dr Elizabeth Dennis at the Plant Industry, CSIRO, Australia. Her main work was focused on divulging the origin of plant viral satellite RNAs; in particular, satellite RNAs of Cucumber mosaic virus, which has been an important and long standing question regarding the evolution of satellite RNAs in Agricultural sciences. She also worked on plant hybrids that play important roles in boosting agricultural productivity.
Her current research interests include working with Plant hybrids and investigating the effects of various abiotic stresses on the peformance of hybrids in comparison to the parents.
