Our program is based on innovative strategies for wheat improvement. Our research effort encompasses using cytogenetics, molecular genetics, physiology, pathology, pre-breeding and breeding to achieve the target of development of elite wheat varieties with multiple disease resistance and stress tolerance. We collaborate with various national partners to be able to analyse the performance of our germplasm in a wide array of environmental diversity from Bahawalpur to Interior Sindh. Our main focus is association mapping and allele characterization in both wild progenitors and cultivated wheat varieties for bread wheat improvement. The research projects of our students include working on abiotic stresses such as drought and salinity along with biotic stresses like stripe rust, leaf rust, stem rust, Karnal bunt with major emphasis on improving wheat quality.
