Theme: 

IBRO-APRC Associate Workshop of Neuroscience: From Basic Neuroscience to Advanced Applications, organized by the Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences, aims to provide an opportunity to acquire knowledge of theoretical and technical advances in key areas of neuroscience in the Asia-Pacific region. This workshop will bridge perspectives from basic neuroscience to its advanced applications. Scientists from different parts of the world will deliver lectures in this workshop, and laboratory sessions will give a state-of-the-art experience to the participants.

A.    Invited Lecturers:

  • Dr Khalid Iqbal (New York State Institute for Basic Research, USA) Aging of the brain and dementia, a 21st century challenge.
  • Dr Saeed Semnanian (Tarbiat Modares University, Iran): The role of orexin in morphine tolerance and its effect on neural activity of Locus Coeruleus and Lateral Paragigantocellularis nuclei.
  • Dr Saad Shafqat (Aga Khan University, Pakistan): Prions and neurological disease.
  • Dr Nikhat Ahmed Siddiqui (University of Karachi, Pakistan): Current Proteomics trends for understanding Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Dr Peter John (National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan): Mental and neurological disorders: Addressing a global health priority.
  • Dr Kashif M. Rajpoot (National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan): Functional neuroimaging: studying epilepsy.
  • Dr Touqeer Ahmed (National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan): Therapeutic potential of curcuminoids in Alzheimer's disease.
  • Dr Saadia Zahid (National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan): Quantitative Proteomics for seeking biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease.

  • Pain measurement
  • Neural imaging
  • Tetrodes single unit recording in awake mouse
  • C.    Poster Session:

    Students attending the school will be required to present a poster from their own research work. Selected participants will  be required to send their poster presentation abstract by July 31, 2013. Posters should be displayed by the presenter during the time allocated for the poster session in the IBRO-APRC Associate School. The posters will be adjudicated by a committee of faculty members and only one poster will be given the best poster award.

    Who Should Apply?

    MS/M.Phil and PhD students from the Asia Pacific region who are having interest in the field of neuroscience are encouraged to apply. Maximum age limit for the participants is 35 years until September 01, 2013.

    Online application is available at www.ibro.info. Interested candidates, please submit a brief curriculum vitae, a short statement of interest and two recommendation letters (one should be from the current supervisor).

    Travel grant and local hospitality will be provided to the selected participants.
