Cell Culture LAB
HCV persistent infections develop chronic hepatitis, fibrosis and even liver cancer.  We are working to check the cellular and molecular effects of HCV non-structural proteins expression on genes involved in mitochondrial mediated apoptosis pathway using cell culture based techniques. We are also developing various HCV sub-genomic replicons which can successfully replicate in cell culture and ELISA based in-vitro infectious assay for Pakistani isolates of HCV. The group is working on the development of intra-genotypic chimeras and construction of consensus cDNA clones for common Pakistani HCV subtype or Pakistani isolates that can be used for entry and neutralization studies and structural and functional organization of genes. Long term non progressors provide us a unique opportunity to explore the natural ways of combating HIV. Research will focus on exploring the immunological responses against HIV and discovery of novel viral inhibitory factors, with special emphasis on T cell responses in long term non-progressors. Other interests include miRNA and genetic studies with reference to HIV.

Lab Facilities 
The lab is fully equipped with the basic & specialized instruments to facilitate research including conventional Laminar flow safety cabinets, Cell counter, CO2 incubator, Ultra centrifuge and -80°C & -150°C (Sanyo, Japan) Freezers etc.
