To familiarize the newly appointed faculty of NUST, a two day training workshop was organized by the Professional Development Center (PDC) from June 18 to 19 2014 at NUST. The workshop was attended by the faculty from SEECS, SCEE, NBS, SCME, ASAB, SNS, SADA and S3H.
Rector NUST addressed the opening session and congratulated the newly appointed faculty on becoming the part of NUST. His address was followed by a question answer to resolve queries that the newly inducted faculty might had regarding NUST. Director HR was the second presenter. He threw light on polices and SoPs as well as rules and regulations concerning the HR Dte of NUST. He explained policies pertaining to recruitment, contract employment, probation period, promotion, performance evaluation, leave policy and tenure track system for faculty. He laid major emphasis on the faculty development program and faculty mentoring and coaching held at NUST to ensure personal and professional growth of employees. He also elaborated the opportunities for advanced studies and Ph.D scholarships abroad. After the lunch break, an explanation of the functioning of learning management system (LMS) was given by LMS Coordinator Ms Asma Javed Paracha. Later on, Registrar NUST Engineer Salim Daud, elaborated the exam policies, SOPs and rules and regulations as well as the procedure of disposal of academically deficient students and the awards and incentives offered to students. Later on Director Academics, Engineer Zuhr Khan explained the academic policies being followed by NUST and the courses being offered.
On second day of the workshop, Coordinator RIC, Engr. Salman Absar, apprised the participants with research based projects being conducted by faculty and students of NUST. He also highlighted the progress being made in the field of innovation and commercialization. This was followed by presentation about polices and working of Student Affairs Dte, which included presentation on faculty’s response towards students, extracurricular activities held at NUST and publications of NUST by Deputy Director Student Affairs.The progression of the workshop continued with introductory presentations for Grading and Relative marking schemes and ongoing research projects by Director Research, Dr. Riaz Ahmad. Later on, talks on functions of “Centre for Counseling and Career Advisory” and employee motivation program were held by C3A Psychologist, Ms Naila Mir.
The workshop concluded with the address of Pro Rector Planning and Resources, Engr. Muhammad Shahid, who gave an overview of the resource planning activities of NUST and wished the newly appointed faculty good luck and success in their career.
