The Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Pakistan H.E. Stefano Pontecorvo and his team visited NUST GTTN on 20th January 2016. President GTTN Mr. Amer Hashmi, Director Operations and Collaboration Brigadier (retd.) Amir Yaqub and Head of Research Mr. Ali Shah cordially welcomed the guests. GTTN senior members such as Rector NUST and Co-Chair GTTN Engr. Muhammad Asghar, Professor Emeritus NUST and Co-Chair GTTN Dr. Muhammad Akram Sheikh and Senior Fellows GTTN namely Governor Owais Ghani, Mr. Humayun Gauhar, and Dr. Shoaib Suddle.
The distinguished guests were introduced to the NUST Knowledge Ecosystem. Ambassador Stefano took keen interest in the structure and organization of the Ecosystem, which is envisioned to build a strong knowledge economy in Pakistan. The idea of creating powerful synergy among corporate bodies in Pakistan, the government and academia was appreciated.
The role of NUST Technology Incubation Centre in complementing the quadruple helix model of linkage and bringing significant improvement in R&D and technological progress was lauded. Entrepreneurship as an ever-evolving subject was also discussed and the guests were told that NUST has introduced this subject in all disciplines in order to address the growing need of the industry sector. H.E Stefano was interested in knowing the mechanism and percentage of job placements of NUST graduates.The discussion also underscored the contemporary challenges encountered by developing countries interms of sustainable education and domestic knowledge production and their viable solutions. Senior members of GTTN stressed the need of strong Pakistan-Italy bilateral relation. Matters of mutual interest and promotion of knowledge-based cooperation were also discussed in the meeting.
