Leading and supervising a project on development of a Morphing Wing UAV.
 Project involves development of a UAV with morphing wing mechanism. An initial
prototype has been developed.

Taught a course on Fluid Mechanics at undergraduate level and a course on Machine
Learning at graduate level.
Led and supervised a project on development of an Aerial Robot for pavement imaging.
 Project involved development of a quad-rotor based aerial robot to acquire
pavement images for road condition monitoring. A prototype is under
development.
 Project also involved development of image processing and machine learning
algorithms for road crack detection, in this regard, various algorithms have been
developed.
Supervised a project on development of a Flapping Wing UAV (Unmanned Aerial
Vehicle).
 Project involved development of a bio-inspired UAV based on anatomy of Corvus
Splendens (domestic crow).
 Researched and developed the mechanics of the bio-inspired mechanism for flying.
 Project also involves development of a CAD model, CFD analysis, and adaptive
control of the bio-inspired UAV.
 Two prototypes have been developed so far.
Led a project on pavement crack detection, and metrology and visualization of potholes
using 3D imaging techniques.
 The ongoing project is carried out with international collaboration of different
research groups at Nottingham Trent and Brunel Universities of United Kingdom
(UK).
 Two successful MS theses is supervised and another one is in progress.
 Various publications in international conferences and journals have been produced.
Served as team member of a committee involves in implementation of Outcome Based
Education (OBE) system based on Washington Accord and in accreditation with the
Pakistan Engineering Council.
Teaching and examining courses at Master’s and Undergraduate level: Paradigms of

Led a project funded by University Technology Malaysia, “To develop an
Intelligent Embedded Information Device (EID) for MOL (Middle Of Life)
Management of a Product to Support Productivity, Maintainability, and
Sustainability”.
 The project was about developing an intelligent embedded information
device for the onboard diagnosis of knock in SI engines
 Developed the hardware using low-cost piezoelectric accelerometers
with dsPIC and mbed-ARM microcontrollers.
 Used the ZigBee protocol for wireless data acquisition.
 The programming and implementation of on-chip digital filters, Fast
Fourier Transforms (FFT) and the prediction of knock using techniques
of AI (Artificial Intelligence) were implemented.
Supervised various projects related to RFID based systems, serving robots,
wireless telemetry, microcontroller-based systems, voice recognition and
intelligent access control systems.
Taught and examined courses: electronics, electrical technology, and
electro-mechanical systems at undergraduate level.

Thesis Title: Utilization of Embedded Information Devices (EID) to support
sustainable approach to product lifecycle management
Project Details:
Project concerns passive, smart and intelligent Embedded Information
Devices (EID) in support of sustainable product lifecycles. This includes a
wide range of devices from barcodes, RFID tags, and memory chips to the
development of a fully integrated mechatronic system. The essence of the
work is embedded monitoring systems that contain information concerning
the "experience" of the product in terms of its operational hours, loadings
and potential system abuse.
Designed and developed a test-rig to perform accelerated life testing of a
gearbox
The rig consisted of a 3-phase induction motor, an electro-magnetic brake,
a bevel gearbox, an accelerometer and a PIC18F458 microcontroller
Programmed an embedded life-prediction algorithm, based on neural networks, on a
LINUX device server (AXIS ETRAX 100LX device chip)
Created a bi-directional communication software to record the vibration data from the
gearbox and then update the product knowledge base on the product itself
Performed Monte-Carlo simulations for the selection of the appropriate statistical
distribution for the life-prediction algorithms
Developed a software using Visual Basic to embed product related information on RFID
tags and iButton devices
Produced a Visual Basic application to record the maintenance activities on a product
and then to transfer the data using the Bluetooth protocol

Press Shop Department
Worked as in-charge of production planning and control in the sheet metal press shop
of Pakistan Suzuki. Responsibilities were developing daily production plan and
manpower scheduling in order to achieve daily, monthly, and yearly production targets
for a total workforce of 82 people. Additional responsibilities to production planning were
materials management, co-ordination with production related departments, looking into
plant safety issues and documentation works related to OHSAS and ISO14000.
Implementation of Japanese lean- manufacturing techniques like Kaizen and 5S.

Have worked as a team member in the development of CMMS (Computerized
