Dr. Waqar Shahid is an electrical engineer with 11 years of industrial and academic experience. He started his carrier as a service engineer in 2003. He worked as an Electronic Research Engineer at NESCOM from February 2004 to October 2008. From October 2008 to August 2010 he worked as an Assistant Professor at Air University Islamabad. He worked as a visiting lab Instructor from January 2011 to May 2014. He was a visiting researcher at NII (National Institute of Informatics) Japan in from Jan 2013 to May 2013.​

Before joining NUST he was working as a Vice Chief Engineer for XYZPrinting limited (subsidiary of New Kinpo groups). He was involved in developing 3D scanners using color and depth cues.​​​

3D Reconstruction, Object detection and segmentation, target tracking, pursuit robot, SLAM, Structure of motion, and Multiple view stereo, Mobile and Web application using visual sensors, Video Analytics for CCTV cameras​
