Pakistan is an energy starved country, however 31% of the 190,000 bpd of oil imports are consumed by the transport sector. Keeping this in view NUST College of E&ME is spear heading research and projects to help develop energy efficient automotives and allied technologies. In order to dove-tail the research expertise of the other Universities, College of E&ME plans to hold the competition DBER, in which students will design, build and drive the most energy-efficient car. It will provide a national platform for the bright and aspiring engineering students to showcase their potential in this significant field of research.
2. Premise & Benefits
DBER is being organized with the following objectives:
a. Exchange of Ideas, Research and innovativeness.
b. Platform for exhibition at national level.
c. Confidence building
3. Date & Venue
DBER will be held on 18th and 19th May, 2013 at the College of E&ME. The two day event is being scheduled to enable the teams to have sufficient time to reconcile on their models for the Shell Eco Marathon in June 2013.
The competition would be held in two phases.
a. Digital Design Competition: Registered teams would be assessed for innovation and compliance with standards set by the event organizers. Qualifying teams would be then judged for best prospects by a panel of experts from Industry, Academia and sponsoring agencies. A startup boost prize would be awarded to winning team(s).
b. Physical Compliance and mileage Competition: The format of DBER is a mirror image of Shell Eco in the sense that the categories defined for the participants would be identical, however the sub-categories would be limited to the ones for which the national teams or their affiliate institutions would like to compete.
Automotive Industry is a rapidly expanding avenue nationally and internationally. The event is hence likely to be of interest to the OEMs, Research institutions and other stake-holders. Stalls will be available for the companies as sponsorship for display. Companies are also encouraged to promote their products through logos on the competing model cars, both nationally and internationally.
6. Shell Pakistan Partaking
It is anticipated that the event would not only support the Universities and students but also promote Shell Pakistan in its corporate responsibility. Hence it is expected that the conglomerate could yield:
a. The Reward money and
b. Support the winning/NUST team in participating in the Shell Eco Asia 2013 in the form of return airfare (team & vehicle), and living expenditure for the event.
