Despite the fact that Pakistan is an energy starved country, 31% of the 190,000 bpd of our oil import is consumed by the transport sector. In order to integrate and bring to one platform the research expertise of the other Universities in the field of energy-efficient cars, the College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering recently staged a competition at the college campus. Called “Design, Build & Energize” the competition was held on 18th and 19th May, 2013, with participation by energy-efficient cars designed and built by students from different universities of Pakistan.
The two day event was scheduled to enable the teams to have sufficient time to improve on their models for the Shell Eco Marathon to be held in June 2013.
DBER was organized with the following objectives:
The competition had two types of cars.
From all over Pakistan 12 teams participated in the event. Shell Pakistan had pre-set categories according to which following prizes were distributed:
Building around HSSC award was won by N.W.F.P. UET team “Seven Comrades”.
Mileage Prize was awarded to NUST EME team “NUSTAG”. It was the only car that completed the designated mileage.
Conservation Award (Reducing our ecological footprint) was given to GIK Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology team “Hammar Head Arc”.
Innovation Award was given to N.W.F.P. UET team “Octa Machina”.
Novelty Prize (Out of the box) was awarded to two teams, Air University “Airians” and HITECH “Iyaad Reborn”.
At the end, the commandant took the chief guest, IGT&E, for tour of the campus and showed him different projects made by students of the college.
The event was a resounding success.
