All Pakistan Digital Innovation Competition was held on 27 December 2007 (Thursday) at College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering, National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST). The objective of the competition was to expedite the process of digital revolution in Pakistan by motivating academia and industry to acquire, promote and utilize state of the art digital technologies & hi-tech software for the rapid development of innovative products and processes. Air Marshal (R) Shahid Hamid, Chairman, Alternative Energy Development Board, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. About 65 students from various universities/colleges all over the Pakistan, participated in the competition and displayed about 15 projects of industrial importance. More than 5 industries also set their stalls. The projects covered a wide range of engineering disciplines including mechanical, electronics, computer, aerospace, mechatronics, biomedical, etc. All projects were evaluated by a panel of judges from academia and industry. Best projects from each discipline were selected and prizes of Rs.30,000/- and Rs.15,000/- were awarded to 1st and 2nd positions in each major category. The Chief Guest admired the contribution made by College of E&ME towards promoting technological advancement in order to upgrade local industry. He appreciated the efforts made by the students from various engineering institutions for participating in the event. He highlighted the need for strong academia-industry relationship which would consequently help industry in boosting its capabilities. He congratulated the winning teams and awarded prizes. He encouraged all young engineers to work hard further and excel in all fields of engineering using digital technologies. Technical Advisor of the event Dr. Khurshid Qureshi from USA, also addressed the audients. He anticipated that this event would become a key platform to promote and showcase application of Digital technologies in Pakistan, with a strong and proactive participation from both Academia and Industry. He also said that the ultimate vision of the event is to become a world leader in Digital Innovation and Virtual Product Creation and also to fully commoditize modern technologies in order to bring it to masses in Pakistan.
