Design and Fabrication of Microwave Resonators
Microwave resonators are used in a variety of applications, including filters, oscillators, frequency meters, and tuned amplifiers. In addition, they have great potential for very sensitive characterisation of the dielectric properties of polar liquids due to their strong interaction with microwave electric fields. In this regard, they enable precise, non-invasive and fast compositional analysis of liquid mixtures for a variety of industrial, analytical and quality control applications. This lecture provided an in-depth understanding of the design and fabrication of lumped-element as well as distributed-element microwave resonators. The resonator topologies covered in the lecture included hairpin, split ring and sapphire dielectric resonators.
