Dr. Ali Sarosh is an associate professor of astronautics at the department of aerospace engineering, College of Aeronautical Engineering (CAE) National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) Pakistan. He completed his undergraduate studies from CAE Risalpur in 1993, in the specialty of aerospace engineering. He holds a Masters degree in Space Propulsion and a PhD degree in Space Vehicle Design both from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA). His industrial experience includes eight years of managing O-level and I-level maintenance of combat aircraft and five years as deputy chief of technology at the Aircraft Manufacturing Factory (AMF), PAC Kamra. Since 2007 he has been involved with astronautical research and primary focus has been on resolving configuration integration issues of hypersonic spaceplanes and scramjet propulsion systems. Some of his recent research outcomes include:-
  • Two-steps improved PSO (TIPSO) algorithm for global numerical optimization of non-linear, high-dimensionality problems,
  • Difference-fractional (DF-APSO) cognitive-heuristic decision algorithm for selection of surrogates of system configurations,
  • Simulated annealing based ABC (SAABC) heuristic-evolutionary algorithm for optimization of satellite control systems,
  • the TIPSO-SVM and GA-ANN based optimization-classification cycle (OCC) for selection of computationally intelligent solutions.
  • The scramjet and hypersonic waverider aerothermodynamic design optimization framework (SHWAMIDOF-FI) program - a novel program for highly integrated configurations of spaceplanes. The work still continues and in future it is hoped that multiple forebody-inlet configurations will be evolved besides integrating cognitive and artificial intelligence concepts into the SHWAMIDOF framework program.


Some of his on-going projects include:-

  • Evolving computationally-intelligent solution for highly-integrated vehicle-propulsion integration on spaceplanes - a continuation of the SHWAMIDOF program i.e. SHWAMIDOF-IC module
  • Evolving highly-integrated burner-SERN modules for the spaceplanes - the last of the SHWAMIDOF modules i.e. SHWAMIDOF-BN
  • Evolution of a computationally intelligent (numerically predictive) solution for predictive configurations of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) & evolved launch vehicles (ELVs).
  • Developing a comprehensive design tool for comparative estimation of launcher sizing of single- versus two-stage-to-orbit spaceplanes using the heuristic intelligent inverse design approach and constant-performance constant-weight method.
  • Simulated solutions for numerical estimation of precise dilution of precision (DOP) in GPS data due to environmental and spatial variations.
