Dr. Kafait Ullah has gained extensive training in economic and social aspects of energy. He obtained Masters in Economics from University of the Punjab, Lahore and MS in Development Economics from University of Life Sciences, Norway prior to his PhD in Energy Economics and Governance from Center of Technology and Governance for Sustainability (CSTM), Institute of Innovation and Governance Studies (IGS), University of Twente, the Netherlands. During his PhD, he worked under the supervision of Prof. Jon Lovett and Prof. Maarten Arentsen to investigate the process, outcomes and determinants of institutional reforms in the power sector of Pakistan. 
Apart from teaching, Dr. Kafait has also designed a number of courses at postgraduate level during his stay as a faculty member at Department of Economics, University of Gujrat (Pakistan) and Department of Management Sciences, Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Islamabad. Those course included Energy Economics, Governance and Policy, New Institutional Economics, Infrastructure Liberalization and Regulatory Economics. 
He has published in a number of international journals and is also a reviewer to different journals on energy policy such as Energy Policy and Utilities Policy.
Currently, he is involved in a number in research projects regarding energy policy and integrated energy modelling.
